Translation/Meaning:
This idiom comes from Wang Bo's poem Farewell to Deputy Magistrate Du, written during the Tang Dynasty. Magistrate Du was a good friend of Wang Bo. In the poem, the following lines give meaning to the original idiom: "So long as we remain bosom friends in our hearts of hearts. We will still feel like neighbors despite the distance apart. So don't let us shed silly tears like youngsters. At that last moment when we both wave goodbye." Now, however, the saying could be used to describe the Chinese sentiment that China has friends around the world, with distance not being a matter of importance.
